A 43-year-old traditional healer will remain in custody for rape after his case was postponed for a formal bail application in the Nebo magistrate court today (Monday). He will appear in court again next Monday.

It is alleged that a 16-year-old girl went to the healer’s home for a consultation at Ga-Marishane village last week. As part of the consultation, she was given traditional medication by the healer to drink. She then became dizzy and the suspect took her to a room where he allegedly raped her.

The healer, who is well known in the village but cannot be named at this stage, allegedly disappeared after the incident. A police manhunt ensued until he was arrested on Sunday. Police have advised members of the community, especially mothers, to stop allowing youth to go on such consultations alone to avoid similar incidents to happen.
