ECONOMIC Freedom Fighters deputy president Floyd Shivambu has handed over learning materials to his former schools – George Sonto and Mphambo – in Malamulele on Monday.
Shivambu, who started his schooling at Mahonisi village and passed matric at Mphambo, also rewarded top learners at the schools with study guides, DVD lessons and other learning materiasl for 2017 academic year.
Limpopo department of education has faced criticism after they failed to deliver textbooks to most of the schools in time. Neighbouring high schools, Jim Yingwani and Xigamani – have not yet received textbooks.
EFF project manager Goodman Chauke said the project started last year and the reason they started with the two schools was because Shivambu schooled at both of them.
“The pupils received study guides for Mathematics, Physical Science, English and Accounting. Top five performers from Mphambo and top five performers from Mahonisi received laptops.
“It is encouraging because the results are improving. If you check Mphambo High, it improved from 70 to 90 percent pass rate and George Sonto from 60 to 80 percent,” Chauke said.
Chauke said among reasons schools perform badly was the late delivery of textbooks and otherstudy materials. He said it was important for materials to be delivered before the start of academic year.
