POLICE elite unit, Hawks, today (Tuesday) arrested two female reservists in Polokwane for demanding a bribe from a foreign national.

Confirming the arrest, Hawks provincial spokesperson Matimba Maluleke said: “Hawks’ Serious Corruption Unit members on Tuesday arrested two female police reservist constables aged 32 and 40 stationed at SAPS Polokwane for corruption. It is alleged that the duo arrested an illegal immigrant last week Friday and demanded R 2000 bribe for her freedom.

“The victim contacted her husband who deposited R 400 through e-wallet and she was released on agreement that she would settle the R 1 600 balance and only then she would get her cell phone and other personal belongings which the two women of law had confiscated.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks who acted swiftly and arrested the two on duty at Polokwane CBD immediately after receiving R 1 600 from an undercover cop.”
The two reservists are expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrate Court tomorrow, Wednesday
