VHEMBE district municipality mayor, Florence Radzilani, has swapped her R1,5m mayoral car for 10 bakkies which were delivered today, Friday March 24, at the entity.
In what was seen as unprecedented in some circles but a gimmick in others, Radzilani insisted when she came into office in August last year that the R1,5m allocated for the mayoral car be diverted to service delivery. The bakkies were handed over at a ceremony today.
“During our election campaign, the people complain about water shortages. Now we are responding to what they called for,” Radzilani said
She said the bakkies will assist staff in the water division in the maintenance of the reticulation system and boreholes around the region.
The move was appreciated by Vhembe House of Traditional Leaders’ Busa Nxumalo: “This will enhance service delivery particularly to poor people”.
